CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra, was elected as the President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2022-23 during which the World Congress of Accountants, held once in four years, was hosted by ICAI for the first time in India in more than 100 years history of the Congress. Dr. Mitra, a senior practicing member, is also a Cost Accountant, Company Secretary, holds a Master’s degree in Commerce, a Law graduate and a qualified Information Systems Auditor. He is a Ph.D. on the topic “A Critical Study of Select Indian GAAP, US GAAP & IAS / IFRS”.
Dr. Mitra has served as a Board Member of Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority (IRDA) and was also a Member of Board of National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) as well as a Member of SEBI’s Primary Market Advisory Committee. He was the Chairman of XBRL India. He is one of the Founder Directors of Institute of Social Auditors of India. He has also served as the Amicus Curiae to the National Company Law Tribunal.
He was the Chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee of ICAI & also Chairman of Corporate Laws & Corporate Governance Committee of ICAI. He was a nominee of ICAI on the Committee of Ministry of Corporate Affairs for Simplification of Companies Rules & LLP Rules under the policy for pre-legislative consultation. Dr. Mitra was a member of the Sustainability Reporting Standards Board of ICAI. He also represented ICAI in Advisory Committee on Listing Obligations and Disclosures (ACLOD) of SEBI.
Debashis Mitra was till recently the Director of ICAI Registered Valuers Organisation (RVO) & in the Board of Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI). He was also Chairman of the ICAI Research wing, ICAI – Accounting Research Foundation.
He has served as a member of Quality Review Board established by Govt. of India. He was also part of Uday Kotak Committee on Corporate Governance set up by SEBI as well as the Committee set up by Ministry of Corporate Affairs for revision in Companies Auditors’ Report Order.
On International front, he served as a member of the International Relations Committee of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). Besides, he was on the Board of Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW). He was the Chairman of Committee on Education, Training and CPD of SAFA and member of Audit Group of Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA). He was also the Technical Advisor in the Board of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
He addresses Institutions all over the world on subjects like Accounts and Audit, Corporate Laws & Artificial Intelligence.
He is a former President of Rotary Club of Calcutta, the oldest running Rotary Club in Asia, as well as former National President of The Institute of Internal Auditors (India).
He is a Member of the Governing Board of Assam Down Town University a NAAC A+ University.
CA. Diptendra Nath Dutt has been a Chartered Accountant for more than 35 years. He has extensive experience in Banking having served a Nationalised Bank for more than 30 years.
CA. Madhusudan Paul has been a member of ICAI since 1971. He has extensive experience in Rural sector Audit. He has served in a public sector undertaking in the Jute sector for more than 29 years.
CA. Shreerupa Basu Das has extensive experience of working in the Banking Sector. She spent a number of years in London working with Banks. She looks after the Concurrent Audit assignments of the firm.
CA. Tapan Kumar Dasgupta was the Chief of Internal Auditor of Oil India Ltd. He has extensive experience in Audit & Accounts of the Oil Sector. He is involved in Internal Audit & Project Management assignments of the firm.
